Umpire Suspended

I am shocked, but very pleased that Mike Winters, the MLB umpire, was suspended for the remainder of the season after his antics in the game that got Milton Bradley hurt. Winters baited the highly volatile Bradley with uncouth language, then when Bradley reacted as expected, Winters tossed him from the game. In the altercation that ensued, Bradley had his ACl torn and will miss the rest of the season. It is about time the umpires are held accountable for their increasingly high handed behavior!

Tools

When I went to work at a chemical plant near our home, my first job was in a department called cell manufacturing. We built chlorine cells from scratch. My job is shaping the carbon plates that fit inside the cells. It was my first experience with Ingersoll Rand air tools. I had to use a pneumatic grinder on the plates to get them down to specification required for the cell. I got pretty good at the job, and of course but to appreciate the quality of Ingersoll-Rand tools.

Vendstar 3000

Have you seen those bulk candy vending machines? They are everywhere; in the entry ways of businesses and restaurants. They are always placed in a prominent spot so that the kids can see them. Whoever owns the machines you have seen probably belong to the multivend family. Multivend was established in 1990, but now has more than 9000 owners of their machines involved in the bulk vending business. It is an attractive way to add to one's income, as it is 100% cash business with up to 80% profit margin, and one can set one's own hours. The new Vendstar 3000 machine will allow for the distribution of one-inch gumballs and those toy capsules that really appealed to the kids.

Speaking At Columbia?

Is the Iranian prime minister actually being allowed in to the country for the United Nations gathering? He is actually speaking at Columbia University? At least he was denied the opportunity to lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknowns! There are few more despicable leaders in the world today than this man!

Bonds

I am not a Barry Bonds fan, so I was not unhappy last week when I learned that the San Francisco Giants have decided not to bring the slugger back next season. But it would be too good to be true to think that he will not get any offers to become a DH for some AL team. I can always hope!

Martin Worldwide

I sometimes get irritated at the amount of unsolicited mailings I receive each week, each day. But since reading a recent web release about Martin Worldwide, I now wonder if a particular mailing was generated by their innovative database they call ResponseCom. Lists compiled by this ground breaking technique are highly successful because it blends information from the U.S. Response and U.S. Consumer databases. This gives Martin a list that shows the most responsive, active and impulsive consumers. Martin Worldwide has a database of over 290 million consumers and 14 million businesses, giving them the confidence to offer a written guarantee of the validity of the mailing lists they provide.

Arizona

When I was growing up, the images I had of Arizona might resemble the pictures of the old Disney documentary "The Living Desert". I would never have considered moving out there. But in the past couple of decades there has been a tremendous growth in the number of folks wanting to take advantage of the climate and the proximity to major cultural and recreational centers. The popularity of Arizona luxury real estate has shot through the roof! Now, I wouldn't mind retiring to the Living Desert!

Mexican Riviera

I have just been reading about All Inclusive Mexico Vacation opportunities available through Karisma Hotels.com. I am think my wife might enjoy such a trip, and since she is nearing her 60th birthday, I think I better act soon to make some reservations. I can just picture us sitting on a balcony overlooking a white sand beach and the ocean as the sun sets, bathing our luxury suite at one of the hotels Karisma can provide in the Mexican Riviera. I can see us enjoying the productions created by a gourmet chef, then taking a late night stroll with the surf at our feet. I am sure my wife will spend part of her time at a spa being pampered with treatments and massages.

She deserves it.

Radar Detectors

I live in a big city and seldom travel at speeds above the posted limits, most of the time traffic is so bad that it is impossible to drive fast. But I have a good friend who lives in a remote setting in West Texas, where the roads are most often empty , flat and straight! He loves to let his vehicles get up close to triple digits. He says the fact that he has radar detectors in all his cars and trucks has saved him a lot of fines over the years!

PayU2Blog

I registered at a site called PayU2Blog a couple of days ago. This blog is the one I submitted for consideration. Today it was accepted. I agreed to their terms, though a couple of items are a bit cloudy to me. One of the requirements is that you must post about every opportunity they send. They say nothing offensive is ever part of their offerings.

The posts must be at least 60 words and have one link. And there is latitude to be creative in the posts, it is not required that the post be stricly about the keyword. It sounds more like what blogitive used to allow. I like the length requirements and the allowance for creativity.

I don't know if there is any benefit for a referral, but if you visit and sign up, there is a place that asks where you heard about PayU2Blog, so I hope you will include this blog as the reference.

Island Life

I was concerned that the recent hit by Hurricane Dean would be a tough blow to the islands, especially Dominica. And when I arrived here I yesterday I saw lots of scards Dean left behind, the crops are down and there are some houses gone. But the life in the islands will go on much as it always has. Today as was walking down the streets of Roseau, the capitol, I saw lots fo folks kicked back drinking rum punch or wine coolers and taking in the warmth of the day. No problem.

Patio Furniture

We have just updated our patio room at the back of our house. We sealed the roof and added some reflective screens on the windows. Now it is cooler out there and we can sit there to have a glass of tea or read a book and relax. We want to place some nice teak outdoor furniture, for its comfort, its beauty and for its durability. It is a good investment!

Drug Rehab Network

If you are in a situation that causes you to need the services of a drug rehabilitation center, you do not want to just look through the yellow pages to select the facility for you. The web site at Drug Rehabilitation Network.com is a directory that can help you determine the best facility or center for your specific needs. This referral site does not take money from those facilities listed on the site, insuring that their assessment will not be tainted or biased. They are dedicated to helping you find the best possible treatment for you or your loved one.

Sagging Behind

For the most part, gravity is a wonderful thing. But as we age, gravity takes its toll on the human body. Parts of the body that used to be firm and lovely tend to sag and droop and look a bit less than lovely! Ladies who would like to replace the droopy look to their backside can take advantage of a padded panty. There is a wide assortment of styles that let you dictate how you will be seen from the rear. It is a way to put one sagging prolbem behind you.

Lighting

When we were deciding all the things we wanted to do in our home to update and remodel, one of the first things we listed was to replace the lights in our dining area, den and living room. The fixtures we had were over forty years old and looked out of style. We wanted more brightness and a less ornate design in the den, and we wanted a ceiling fan in the kitchen. Those changes were not as difficult or costly as some of the other work, but it is one of the most visible and satisfying.

Poker Popularity

I have been amazed at the mushrooming popularity of poker in the past four or five years. The World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel is very highly rated for viewership and the World Series of Poker has become a major event on ESPN each year. This year over ten thousand people entered that tournament!

Of course that growth in popularity has been a welcome development by those who produce poker tables and poker chips for homes. The sales have increased dramatically, as more and more people host poker nights in their own abodes.

Birth Announcements

I love it when the congregation where I worship has a several of our young families that are expecting babies at the same time. It is a special time of bonding for the young mothers to be, as they discuss developments and goals they each have. Often the couples get together for supper or recreation, and the friendships become an important element of our fellowship.

It is also a sign of life in the congregation. I wish we were receiving those cute little birth announcements every month!

August 18, 1948

I was born that day, 59 years ago! Since I I was tagged by a very special kid (39 YEARS OLD), I decided to play along in this birthday meme .
Here's how this meme works:

Go to the Wikipedia site and type in your birthdate

List 3 events that happened on your birthday

List 2 other birthdays that you share

And finally, list 1 holiday that falls on your birthday

I'll continue with the rules after I add all this information.

Events:

1. 1587 - Virginia Dare, granddaughter of Gov. John White of the Colony of Roanoke, becomes the first English child born in the Americas.

2. 1909 - Tokyo mayor Yukio Ozaki presents Washington, D.C. with 2,000 cherry trees, which President Taft decides to plant near the Potomac River.

3. 1983 - Hurricane Alicia hits the Texas coast, killing 22 people and causing over USD $1 billion in damage (1983 dollars).

I share this birth date with:

1. 1774 - Meriwether Lewis, American explorer (d. 1809)

2. 1934 - Roberto Clemente, Puerto Rican baseball player and humanitarian (d. 1972)

(I share the birthday with four others in the congregation where I worship.

Holiday:

1. International Lighthouse Day

Ok, now for the rest of the rules.

There are 5 slots listed below of those who have been tagged. You need to remove the first one and bump the others up one space, listing your name at the end of the list.

Mike / Danielle / Christine/ Silken/Erroll Le Vant

And finally, I must tag 5 friends to send this to. I know some of you may be getting tired of these meme's, so if you don't want to play, no worries. Just watch out for what might happen to you on your birthday if you don't.... ;) (J/K)

Marathon Bird / Lacie / High Fidelity / Jameo / Erroll Le Vant

Overcoming Embarrassment

I have an older friend who really loves baseball. He and I talk about the Houston Astros all the time. We debate the pros and cons of the decisions of the manager, of some free agent that might be acquired. For years I have invited my friend to attend a game with me at Minute Maid Park. He has steadfastly refused, always making excuses. Finally a few days ago he confided in me that he has a bladder problem and cannot get far from his toilet, so he did not want to go to a game and have an embarrassing moment. I asked if he had ever considered wearing adult diapers that would allow him the freedom to get out again. He said again it was an embarrassment to walk out of a store with them. I told him he could order them online and have no embarrassment. He is thinking about it. I hope we soon get to go to a game!

Real Estate Sales

Back in the days when I was young and thought I wanted to be rich, I got my real estate license and went to work for an agency that had a tie to a new home builder. The homes were very nice and were easy to sell, but the business was too cut throat to suit me. I did not like the intensity of the market, and did not enjoy the demands it placed on my time. So I decided to let my license go and leave the selling of property to professionals!
